When you have selected one or more entries you will be able to choose from several methods for viewing them. These are accessed from the 'View' panel on the right of the search results screen:
Select the entry you wish to view (once selected it will appear highlighted in blue, as in the above screenshot) then click the arrow next to the view type in the View Panel. The four types of view are explained in detail below.
WYSIWYG and Tree View
WYSIWYG
WYSIWYG is an anagram of "what you see is what you get" and it is a view that displays formatted text so that you can see, in real time, what will happen to an entry when you make a change.
Tip: double-clicking an entry in the entry list will display it in the WYSIWYG view
The Tree View
The WYSIWYG view but with markers indicating the XML tags in the data.
In the WYSIWYG and Tree Views (shown above) the current version of the entry is displayed. Any outstanding editorial changes that have not been signed off are not shown. (In technical terms: the Outstore version of the entry, if any, is not shown.) The Outstore version can be viewed in the Version Manager.
The first ten of the entries you selected are displayed. To display other entries, double-click on the appropriate entry in the 'Headwords' list (on the left of the screen).
In addition to inspecting the selected entries, you can:
• | Print a single entry: click on an entry, then click the Print ![]() |
• | Print all currently displayed entries: click the Print All ![]() |
• | View the entries in alternative formats, if any are available: choose from the Style drop-down list. |
• | View the entries with/without XML tags: choose the option 'tags only' from the Tags drop-down list. The default view for WYSIWYG view is without XML tags; the default view for Tree view is with XML tags. In Tree view all tags are displayed; in WYSIWYG view with XML tags, a subset is displayed. |
• | View the entries with/without flags: choose the option 'tags + flags' from the 'Tags' drop-down list. Flags are small red squares that indicate elements with annotations. The default view for WYSIWYG view is without flags; the default view for Tree view is with flags. |
• | Discard the entry: click the arrow next to the Discard Entry caption. A discarded entry is deleted from the dictionary; however, its data is not removed from the database and can if needed be restored by your DPS manager. |
• | Add, view, or remove attachments relating to the currently selected entry: see Attachment |
• | Send entry to Version Manager (see Version Manager) |
• | Add, view, amend, or remove annotations relating to the currently selected entry: see Annotations. |
• | Add the currently selected entry to or remove it from a Group. |
• | Add the currently selected entry to or remove it from a Batch. |
• | Edit a section of an entry: see Editing Entries. |
Another WYSIWYG view, which emulates more closely the final appearance of the title when it is typeset:
In this screen, in addition to inspecting the selected entries, you can:
► | Print the entries: click on the Print ![]() |
► | View the entries in alternative formats, if any are available: choose from the drop-down list. |
Note: the detail on each screen will differ depending on how the project is set up, and it should also be noted that whether the Proofer View is available to you or not is also dependent on your project configurations.
Version Manager
The Diff (Difference) Manager facility allows you to view the revision history of an entry, and compare different versions. This is a feature for advanced Users and should only be consulted if you are confident with the system. See instructions in the Version Manager section under Features for Advanced Users.
