Welcome Editors!
The term 'Editors' is used here as an umbrella term for anyone involved in the editorial or lexicographical aspects of a project. As the Editors you are responsible for editing the actual data for a given project. Often you will work remotely, from home or abroad, so it is up to you to communicate with your Project Manager efficiently to keep your workload on track. Your primary duties include:
| ► | Downloading and working on batches. |
| ► | Editing existing entries. |
| ► | Adding new entries. |
| ► | Uploading batches. |
| ► | Using the DPS tools to communicate effectively with your Project Manager and with other members of the editorial team. |
Most of your work takes place in the Entry Editor but you will also need to be familiar with some areas of the DPS Website as this is where you will download your batches.
Below is a guide to help you learn the DPS quickly. The guide indicates the areas of the DPS that you should concentrate on (Primary Knowledge) plus the areas of the DPS that you should be familiar with, though not necessarily proficient in (Secondary Knowledge). All users should start with the Introduction to gain a solid understanding of the overall system.
Key Information
There are a few key pieces of knowledge that are fundamental to your understanding of the DPS System. Please read the following points carefully and refer to the links for further information:
| ► | User Permissions are allocated to each individual User when they first gain access to the DPS System. The appearance of your screen will depend on the permissions you have been given. Some buttons may or may not appear on any given screen. If you find you cannot perform a particular operation, or you cannot see a particular button or area of the screen, it is most likely that you do not have the correct permissions. Your Project Manager and System Administrator will be able to help you with this, and change your permissions if necessary, so please consult them if you have any questions. |
| ► | If you are working on multiple projects (e.g. several different dictionary projects for different publishers) you will need to configure your system especially for this. Please ask your System Administrator for further instructions. |
| ► | Learning the Entry Editor can be daunting at first, but it really doesn't take much to get to a level where you can work confidently and efficiently. There are many safeguards in place and the system has strict version control in place to protect the raw data, so don't be afraid to just try things. |

The Introduction is the very first thing you should read. It explains how the overall system works and, in particular, the Workflow. It is vital that you understand the Workflow so you are aware of how your role affects the project as a whole.
